West Cumberland Engineering Limited (WCEL) has doubled its workshop capacity following a landmark acquisition.
The firm acquired T.I.S. Cumbria Limited (TIS) as part of a move that expands its nuclear capabilities.
The acquisition sees TIS operate within WCEL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shepley Engineers.
Founded in September 1995, TIS had become a leading nuclear fabrication specialist, under the leadership of managing director Tony O’Pray.
The joining of the companies is projected to enhance crane capability, meaning that WCEL is able to continue to deliver its current workload, and also expand capacity for new and existing clients, support nuclear decommissioning, nuclear new build and SMRs.
It also secures the future of hundreds of highly skilled employees across the region.
Gavin Jakubowski, Shepley Group Managing Director, said: “The Shepley Group has been providing crucial support for the nuclear industry for over 75 years and by bringing TIS into the Group, we are futureproofing our business and accelerating its growth.
"We are very much looking forward to welcoming the TIS team into the Shepley family and continuing to provide clients with a high quality, reliable service.”
Tony O’Pray, TIS Managing Director, said: “I am delighted that TIS Cumbria has found a new home within the Shepley Group that will allow it to continue to grow and develop.
"As I now step back from my role, I look forward to seeing the team thrive under the new ownership, bringing an exciting new chapter for the workforce.”
