Whitehaven Town Council has announced their plans for Christmas this year.

There is a range of events and activities planned for November and December in the town centre.

These include Christmas Markets, the Christmas Lights Switch On event, and a fireworks display on the harbourside.

Mayor Chris Hayes said: "I'm really looking forward to the Christmas events this year and we have some amazing local acts at the lights switch on.

"We'll also have some dancers, people in fancy dress and CFM will also be getting involved. It's going to be a really big event this year."

Gerard Richardson, a business owner who will be assisting with some of the events, said: "The light switch-on will be held on November 18, it will be on a Saturday this time and held in the market area.

"It's always been a great event no matter where it's been held in the town and it's nice, light, family entertainment.

"We have the stage that CFM take part in, there'll be some street theatre and of course the big countdown to the mayor switching on the lights.

"By the time we get to switching on the lights you couldn't fit a wafer-thin mint in the town centre."
