BUDDING bobbies have been patrolling their school and helping younger children after being recruited for the newest Mini Police scheme.

Police visited Bransty Primary School in Whitehaven to launch the initiative and welcome the first ever Bransty cohort of Mini Police Officers.

Pupils from the Year Five class who will be taking part in the scheme over the coming school year were presented with their M-P caps and ID badges by Police Sergeant Lindsay Stuart, PCSO Mark Fishpool and PCSO Kall White.

Among other things the Mini-Police officers will assist in delivering key educational messages on topics such as road safety to the rest of the school, as well as taking part in community focused activities.

Amy Donohoe, Year Five teacher and Mini Police lead at Bransty School, said: “We are delighted that we have been accepted as part of the Mini Police scheme and the children are enthused and excited to get started.

“They have already begun patrols within school, helping the younger children at break and lunch times and were a fantastic support during our Macmillan coffee afternoon.

“I am excited to see the children develop as the scheme progresses and feel that it will really help give them aspirations for the future.”
