Next weekend will see the return of the world-famous Gurning Championships in Egremont.

This is one of the most popular attractions at the annual Crab Fair and is a very well-known tradition.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 16.

A spokesperson said: "We've not yet told you about the gurning, but given it's in our page name and the thing we're so very famous for, we had to change that.

"This year's event is back in Egremont Market Hall. The doors open from 5:45.

"There's the singer Sarah, entertaining you from 6pm to 6:45pm.

"Then you've got the junior talent contest, horning blowing and hunting and comic songs from 7pm.

"We've got the junior Gurning World Championship heats and final from 8pm, before the two main events finish the night.

"The Ladies' World Gurning Championship is at 9pm, and is followed by the Men's World Gurning Championship at 10pm.

"It's set to be a brilliant evening's entertainment. It's going to be hosted by friend of the Fair and radio DJ, Robbie Dee.

"So come along and witness the unique, the quirky, the amazing World Gurning Championships on Saturday 16 September 2023.

"Will we see new champions or former winners returning to bag their trophies? The Market Hall is the place to find out."
