The Seascale Horticultural Show triumphed on Saturday despite initial weather concerns, as the public flocked to Seascale school hall.

The less than promising morning weather improved enough to see crowds gather at the 2pm opening, keeping door helpers and refreshment staff busy.

Challenging weather conditions throughout the year, dominated by wind and rain, inadvertently shaped the show's strengths and weaknesses in produce.

Roses particularly struggled, resulting in a notable decline in entries, whereas tomatoes and marrows thrived.

Show Chairman Tom Porter joked about needing to stock up on silver polish after he crowned the winners, having himself snagged an impressive six trophies.

A promising influx of new exhibitors of various ages was welcomed, forecasting a healthy future for the event.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "Our thanks go to all those who took part and attended.

"Also, to the helpers who set up and cleared the hall, when it was all over for another year.

"There would be no show without you."
