School children were treated to an awards night and film screening at The Gaiety Cinema in Whitehaven.

Pupils from Valley Primary School took part in a competition organised by the BEP Project run by a joint venture partners Balfour Beatty & Jacobs.

The children had to design posters to do with earth, wind, fire, water and electricity with the winning posters now being used to promote safety on the BEP project and hopefully around Sellafield site.

Winners were chosen from each category and the five lucky winners all received a voucher prize for their efforts, all the children were treated to a private screening of the latest Disney Pixar movie, Elemental and a few treats to enjoy whilst watching. Luke Douglas attached to the BEP Project said "We went in last week and gave them a safety talk and then we asked them to design us a poster of what safety means to them”. Using the characters from the film as inspiration.

Lisa Scargill, the Social Impact manager, said: "It was definitely a huge success, we picked five winners from the poster competition all of which will be used around the site and around the office. "The children were super happy with the film and with their prizes and it was great to have them all there and be able to support the local cinema too. "From our perspective, it went really well and we're hoping to run more when the schools go back in the autumn term."

Luke Douglas, of BEP, added: "BEP is a major project on-site, it stands for Box Encapsulation Plant, which is the gist of where we come from and what we're involved in working with, we have 500 people on the job.

"We had around fifty entries and five of those were winners, all of whom received an Amazon gift voucher.

"The winning posters are going to be showcased on the Sellafield site and we've become involved with Valley Primary School."

The movie told the story of two different characters based on the elements of fire and water who fall in love.
