Muncaster Castle has been awarded the Silver Award for Small Attraction of the Year at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

The team at Muncaster explained Iona and Peter Frost Pennington had a wonderful evening at the award ceremony at The Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter and the whole team is thrilled with the result.

Ewan Frost Pennington of Muncaster Castle said: "There is a national competition every year and it's organised by Visit Britain.

"It's all around things related to tourism and Muncaster came second in the country for small visitor attractions which means attractions under 100,000 visitors a year.

"We are over the moon and to get that recognition and coverage was huge because of the other amazing visitor attractions in Cumbria and the rest of the country, this is really big.

"For us to come second is huge, it's really something that we want to be screaming and shouting about, it's something we're really proud of and hope the wider community is proud of.

"We just want to improve, this time we've gone for silver so next time we want to go for gold.

"I think the staff and the team in particular have scored very highly and we know that they're fundamental to everything we do and I think a lot of that is recognition to them.

"What we're wanting to say is thanks to our team at Muncaster because they've done a great job at making everyone feel welcome.

"We'd love for more local people to become friends of Muncaster, we think that it's a fantastic attraction.

"We think if you live within half an hour drive an hours drive, it's a no brainer to get the Friends of Muncaster pass to come and see and visit the place."
