Ewan Frost-Pennington, of Muncaster Castle, said: "It's been awesome, we're overwhelmed by how popular it's proving.

"The mechanized jousting, the archery, and the thing that gets me really excited is the medieval festivals.

"The kids get involved, it looks spectacular and they love it. The guy that we have who runs the battles incorporates real-life history as part of that so not only are the kids having fun - they really do attack the king as part of it with foam swords - but they're also learning about what warfare used to be like."

Ewan explained that they are offering something educational as well as entertaining and the children are learning as they enjoy the festival.

He continued: "It's kind of like the kids are at war with each other and the commentator that we've got is exceptional and knowing his history and also teaching his kids about it.

"Some of the activities that are the most popular are the ones that people can get involved with and are interactive.

"Muncaster at this time of year is spectacular with the bird displays and the gardens looking spectacular, but by adding just a little bit we're able to make the area feel really special.

"We've had some really positive feedback and people have been very complimentary. People have been saying they can't fit everything in during one day and are then coming back for a second day."
