Whitehaven Town Council have shared their delight after the success of their coronation events.

The photographic exhibition in St Nicholas Gardens had hundreds of visitors over the week and was the venue on Thursday evening for the Town Council to pay tribute to a stalwart volunteer for the town.

Marie Scott has volunteered for the blind society for over 30 years and was delighted to be honored by the town council on a special evening.

In addition to the exhibition, there was also the illumination of St Nicholas' Tower in red white, and blue for the weekend, which aptly also saw the iconic wave illuminated for the first time in many years.

Topping it all off, the Continental Market has been a huge draw attracting thousands of shoppers over the four days and Taylor's Fun Fair has been as popular as ever.

Whitehaven town council mayor councilor Charles Maudling said: “It's been a privilege to be the mayor of Whitehaven for the last 12 months and these last few days have been the icing on the cake."

Gerard Richardson MBE DL also paid tribute to the Town Councils' sponsors for the weekend's events, Canon UK and Sunbelt rentals who between them contributed giant photo prints and event tables to help the events go off successfully.

The next town council event is the Cumbrian Traders Market on Friday, May 25.
