A GROUP from Cleator Moor are creating a tapestry fit for a king.
Skills 4 You in West Cumbria are currently running sessions for their members to create the piece.
Based in Cleator Moor, Skills 4 You helps people into gainful employment whilst also helping them to develop new skills.
To mark His Majesty King Charles III's coronation next month, the centre is running classes to make a silk tapestry with references to Britain's heritage and history.
June Pearson, a volunteer at Skills 4 You, who is helping to run the class, said: "We've set up a group that is to run alongside the coronation along with other things that will be happening at Skills 4 You.
"In the past I'd done huge silk paintings with the kids at school, so we got the necessary funds and accumulated some people who were interested to come.
"So we got a nice little working party going of people who have worked with me before, two of the men are quite talented and the women know what is necessary.
"We've been working on it now for about five weeks, we did a mind map of all the things that we would like to see on it.
"So we put all our heads together and did big lists and things like that and then I took the ideas away.
"Obviously I had a lot of ideas of my own, so I took what they did and incorporated them.
"What you do is use the silk paint which is a special paint and once it's put onto the silk it runs along the capillaries of the silk and spreads.
"So if you want something with a specific shape you've got to create almost a little island for the paint to stay in which you do with a paste called gutter.
"I took all the ideas and applied them to the silk, the gutter, you then let it dry and the silk paint is applied.
"What we want it to look like is a tapestry and it already has a border that is linked to the coronation."
