Memorial shirt released by Hensingham ARLFC in memory of Logan Holgate

Hensingham ARLFC has released a shirt in memory of Logan Holgate, who passed away in his sleep in January.

The rugby community was left devastated by the loss of the talented 18-year-old, who played for Hensingham in the open age and Under 18s.

The popular young rugby player was also a part of the England Community Lions squad which defeated France to win the Under 19 European Championships in Italy last year.

The memorial shirt features Logan’s initials and the number seven – his shirt number – on the front, along with a photo of him on the back.

All money raised from sales of the shirt will go to ‘Logan and Gary’s Lions Hearts Fund’, which was set up in memory of Logan and England Lions coach, Gary McMahon, who tragically died of a heart attack.

A series of fundraising events are planned over the coming weeks and months to build the fund, which has been set up with support from the Rugby League Benevolent Fund.

Jordan Mattinson, of Hensingham ARLFC, said: “Logan is missed massively by us all, from playing darts on a Friday, (albeit quite badly!) to playing rugby on a Saturday to just generally being up at the club all the time and being his usual cheeky self.

“His friends and family hope these events and fundraisers will not only help with raising money for life-saving equipment and training but will also ensure Logan’s memory lives on forever with us all. There will certainly never be another lad like Logan.”

Jordan is part of a fundraising committee set up with Ellis Postlethwaite, Mark Thornton, Logan’s two brothers, Fletcher and Ellison Holgate, his auntie Lisa Powe and uncle Paul Dalton.
