Applications for the position of CEO at Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners are set to close this Monday, April 10.

The Harbour Commissioners are looking for a successor to John Baker who is leaving the organisation to take up a new position at Windermere Marina Village in May.

The role of CEO includes overseeing a number of business activities for the Harbour Commissioners including the day-to-day management of Whitehaven Harbour, several car parks, the Jefferson’s Rum brand, The Rum Story Attraction and The Rum Story Shop.

Outgoing chief executive John Baker said: “I’ve loved my time here and I love Whitehaven. There’s so much potential within the town and particularly with the harbour.

"This is an incredibly varied and exciting role and I’m excited to help find the next person to carry on the great work we’ve been doing and take forward our vision to make the town a better place to live, work and visit.”

The transition of The Edge Coastal Activities Centre from the build stage into a successful commercial operation will be a major focus for the new CEO. The Edge is due to open in the autumn and will include a café, public toilets, an exhibition space and overnight accommodation.

The new CEO will also be responsible for helping the not-for-profit organisation innovate and grow to reach new audiences and generate new income streams.

Madonna Adams, chair of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, said: “The Board and I are very grateful for everything John has done during his time here as chief executive. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all his hard work and commitment to the town. We are very sad to see him go but wish him all the best for his future.

“John is leaving us in a very strong position, having achieved an incredible amount in a relatively short period of time. We look forward to welcoming a new chief executive later on this year.”

Applications are invited in writing with a full CV to john.baker@whitehavenhc.org.uk. For further information about the role visit LinkedIn or call 01946 590515.
