Work from two artists both based in St Bees is being highlighted at Lowes Court Gallery for the whole of April.

Gordon Hickman is a self-taught artist whose main passion is for painting wildlife, soft pastels being his preferred medium.

Gordon spends many hours exploring the Cumbrian countryside looking for inspiration for his paintings.

"I find it very rewarding when I feel that I have captured something of what I have viewed on my walks and brought it to life in my paintings," he said.

His subtle use of pastels produces a harmonious and natural feel to his work, often highlighted with a bold vibrancy of colour balanced by muted shades of greens and browns.

Dilys Brownrigg has painted since she was at school. Dilys paints mainly in oils, and she describes her work as being inspired by ‘beauty and colour’. Subjects range from sea and mountains to include flowers, birds and Herdwick sheep in the landscape.

She is also fascinated by Celtic Art and patterns, St.Bega often featuring in her work. The postcard collection of her husband Donald also gives her plenty of subject matter from ‘bygone days’.
