Youngsters won a top award at a popular Lego League event.
A team of four girls, along with three members of staff, from St Bees School made the journey to Lakes College last week to compete in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge where they walked away with the Robot Performance Award.
FIRST LEGO League Challenge sees teams from all over the county design and code their own robot which then has to compete in multiple games with the aim of scoring the highest points to be in with the chance of winning one of the top prizes, including a ticket to the national final.
Students learn all sorts of core skills and also have to complete an ‘Innovation Project’ that solves a problem that they may face in their school or in life in general.
They must carry out research into the problem and come up with a solution for it, while also creating a model, sharing feedback and communicating the impact it would have.
St Bees scored the highest by far in all three of the Robot Games with scores of 230, 185 and 215 adding up to a grand total of 630, which bagged them a trophy.
The team’s head coach, Ann Stott, said: “These girls have worked incredibly hard all year leading up to this event and that hard work definitely paid off.
“We might not have made it to the National Final this year but to take home one of the top awards is an absolute testament to each of the girls on the team.
“I am very proud of all of them and can’t wait to see what they come up with next year!”
