A west Cumbrian boxing club have announced they have received investment from a number of firms to develop their gym and training facility.

Cleator Moor ABC have been supported in developing their gym which will cater to a whole new generation of boxers.

Des Mattinson and Arron Adair who run the club are absolutely delighted to be able to announce this and are excited for what this will mean for the club's future.

Mr Adair said: "It all started with the dream of making Cleator Moor ABC a better gym for the community but more so for Des.

"Over 40 years of training hundreds of kids and adults from amateur boxers to professional boxers and just giving kids somewhere to hang out.

"This could not have happened without the generosity of Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, AVRS and Maxwell Flooring.

"Everyone's helped out together in the gym and these companies have put a huge amount of money and effort in just to do the full gym up.

"We've had new flooring put down, we've had a brand new lighting system put in, everything's been redecorated, Morgan Sindall have come in and painted the full gym and have also donated some new equipment to us as well. We've got a completely new gym and it looks brilliant.

"It's absolutely amazing, it's once in a lifetime, Des started off in the gym with just a bag in the corner and was doing car boot sales. We'd been doing different things on weekends to raise money to support the gym and we've finally got it now.

"It's not just for Des it's for myself to bring the next generation of boxers through and it brings us up to speed with all the other clubs across the country.

"We'd lke to give a massive thank you to all the companies involved and also to Paul Wells for putting it in place as he managed to kick start it and get it all sorted."
