A SERIES of events will be held to keep the memory of an 'irreplaceable' young rugby player alive and help support his bereaved family.

The inaugural Logan Holgate memorial game will take place against Distington ARL this weekend and will see Hensingham ARLFC launch a year-long initiative to support the LH7 Memorial Fund.

Logan, 18, who played for Hensingham in the open age and under 18s, passed away suddenly on January 11.

The popular player was also a part of the England Community Lions squad which defeated France to win the Under 19 European Championships in Italy last year.

His funeral was held last week and was attended by hundreds of people, including representatives from rugby clubs across west Cumbria and the Community Lions.

Logan’s teammates say they now want to raise money throughout the year help his family through 'this tragic and difficult time'.

A spokesperson for the club said: “As a club and a group of close friends we will never forget Logan and we hope that the events we will do throughout the year and more will help people to remember the good times with him and to ensure his memory lives long with us.

“His aunties Lisa and Anne, his brothers Ellison and Fletcher and his uncle Paul, along with the rest of his family are always in our thoughts and we hope to support them as much as possible now and into the future.

“The first event this Saturday is the first team playing Distington at Hensingham, with a music event being held in the marquee afterwards. We will have plenty more throughout the year.

“Logan was a massive part of the club and will continue to be through the stories about him, the achievements he’s accomplished and possibly more poignant to everyone, the people he’s managed to successfully wind up on a daily basis.

“He was certainly one of a kind and needless to say he’s irreplaceable and so sorely missed already.”

The game will kick-off at Hensingham at 2pm on Saturday. The after party will start at 5.30pm.
