Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has received nearly £45,000 on top of her annual salary since being re-elected at the end of 2019, new figures show.

Mrs Harrison has declared nine financial interests, worth the equivalent of around £44,930, which puts her in the top 23 per cent of all MPs.

The data from Sky News and Tortoise Media's Westminster Accounts disclose MPs’ earnings from secondary employment, donations from other associations and gifts, from December 2019 to the present day.

Mrs Harrison has declared a total of £22,500 in donations from The Cayzer Trust, a company based in London, which donates to Conservative MPs and campaigns in constituencies across the country.

The MP has also declared a gift worth £2,280 from The Football Association Premier League, which was to attend the Brit Awards as their guest in February 2020. This is the only gift Mrs Harrison has received.

Other donations come from Slate Tops (£5,400), Stalbury Trustees (£5,000), Carlton Club (£5,000) and IX Wireless (£4,750).

Mrs Harrison said: “Donations are a welcome additional resource to the Copeland Conservative Association and all are appropriately recorded following strict protocols.

“The monies are held and managed by the Association and have been used to fund many projects, for example the Tourism Edition, a magazine promoting Copeland’s businesses posted to 32,000 households.

“Later this month I’m hosting a series of Pie and Pea Farming Suppers - completely free for any Copeland farmer to attend - where we’ll discuss the changes to on-farm subsidies and the variety of support available.

“Copeland is a vast constituency area of some 457 miles square; these additional donations mean I can reach more people, pay for local printing, postage to remote communities or support our local pubs and hard-working farmers.

“I would like to relay my thanks for the generosity provided towards Copeland and reinforce that not a single penny of these donations is received by me personally as income, and it never will be.”

In relation to the gift from The Football Association Premier League, Mrs Harrison added: "Organisations frequently invite MPs and others to hospitality events, to speak about their priorities and challenges. I attended this event, to which I was invited, and it was properly recorded in the Register of Members Financial Interests."

The average MP has received about £14,780 worth of donations, gifts and other payments and benefits. Paul Howell, the member of parliament for Sedgefield, is statistically-speaking the closest to that average.
