COPELAND MP Trudy Harrison has congratulated a Millom florist for being named the best in the UK.

The Bloom Room, on St George’s Terrace, was named the UK’s Best Retail Florist at the British Flower Association (BFA) Awards, beating off strong competition from across the country to claim the prestigious title.

Mrs Harrison visited The Bloom Room to congratulate owner Nicola Armstrong in person, and to hear more about the business’ development and awards success.

Mrs Harrison said: “This award is an outstanding achievement for Nicola and it is thoroughly deserved.

“Nicola’s passion and creativity shines through and her success is testament to years of hard work and dedication to build her business and develop her craft.”

Nicola is a self-taught florist, with a background degree in Contemporary Applied Art, and launched The Bloom Room 10 years ago providing beautiful bespoke floral arrangements for all occasions, covering gift work, to corporate events, weddings and funerals.

As a member of the British Florist Association (BFA) and Good Florist Guide (GFG) which connect frequently to network as an industry and share ideas, Nicola says she is grateful for that background support and hopes the award can act a springboard to further opportunities developing her experience into new areas such as speaking engagements and demonstrator courses.

Nicola said: “To be recognised by not only my customers and the local community who voted for me, but also by industry professionals, is my most humbling and greatest achievement.

“I attended the awards grateful of just reaching the final stages, so to come away with the trophy was a realisation beyond by biggest dreams. I don’t think it will ever sink in; I’m still on cloud nine and I never want to get off!”
