SCHOOLS joined together last week to look at different ways to raise money for the annual Poppy Appeal.

Seascale Nursery and Primary School children thought of their own unique ways to try and raise money for the appeal.

Year Six took the lead this year by setting up a Poppy shop.

School governor Jason Rushworth said: "The children had been tasked with a marketing and business project, to try to raise as much money as possible for the charity and did not disappoint.

"The money raised now goes to help ex-service personnel and their
families who are struggling."

Head teacher at Seascale Nursery and Primary School, Avril Spencer, said she was very proud of the pupils who took part in the fundraising initiative: “The children itemised all the merchandise and came up with recommended donation amounts for the younger children to buy.

"They worked very hard and the results are amazing.”

This week Seascale Nursery and Primary School have been studying WWI and WWII and will be leading an assembly this week for the whole school, showing what they learnt about different aspects of lives that were changed by war.

Different groups looked at the effects on children. They created a freeze frame to discuss the feelings of people in different scenarios.

They also looked at examples this week of propaganda posters from WWI and created their own to promote different ideas.

Once they had designed their own they compared UK propaganda posters with German ones and discussed any similarities and differences.

This Friday schools across the area will pause for a two-minte silence to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918, when the first world war officially ended.
