This weekend saw the return of Gosforth Show after what was a two-year hiatus for the event.

The show, which took place on Saturday, August 20, celebrates agriculture and trade from around west Cumbria and the rest of the county.

Many people flocked to the small village of Gosforth to celebrate and enjoy the display of rural workers.

Julia Watson, of the Gosforth show, said: "After being away for two years we were unsure about how people would feel about coming back to the show especially with their animals, we were worried people might have got out of the habit.

"It was overwhelming the number of entries in the sheep section - doubling our previous years, so much so, that we struggled finding enough hurdles for pen them all up.  This year we introduced four new types of classes to better cover the traditional, native and rare breeds of sheep, we cannot believe the support we got, a massive thank you to everyone for making it a big success.

"It was great to see the youngsters competing in both the cattle and sheep sections - around 40 altogether - it's great news for farming.

"The trade stands were a little slow to start coming through, but I think we ended up with an excellent selection and the newly formed craft tent was quickly booked up and helped to bring people to the show, special thank you to Sheila Lawson for organising all the bookings and Jennifer Cottam for spreading the word."

The show also hosted a Handicraft and Produce Tent which gained an impressive 900 entries this year.

It was described as a beautiful display of baking and crafts from both children and adults.

Julia thanked everyone who was involved and who attended for their support. She explained that the show will be back again next year on Saturday, August 3.
