BARROW fans who made 'abhorrent' remarks about an opposition fan who was killed after being assaulted have been banned.

Barrow AFC said a 'small number' of fans made derogatory remarks about a Walsall fan when the West Midlands club visited Holker Street.

The fan was killed in Blackpool in June.

In a statement, Barrow AFC said: "The Club can today provide the following update, regarding the abhorrent remarks made by a small group of spectators during Tuesday night’s Sky Bet League Two fixture between Barrow and Walsall.

"The Club has moved swiftly with the local authorities to identify those involved, using our CCTV system, and today has issued several banning orders to spectators who were involved.

"We must take this opportunity to remind everybody that Barrow Association Football Club has a zero tolerance stance on anti-social behaviour, verbal/physical abuse and any other discriminatory remarks or acts."
