A CONVICTED rapist from west Cumbria has been recalled to prison after he flouted a court order by staying in a house where there was a child.

Wayne Hilton, 47, of Ewanrigg Road, Maryport, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before magistrates at Carlisle’s Rickergate court. “It’s my fault,” the defendant admitted during the hearing.

The court heard that the defendant, who was jailed for rape in 2016, had now been recalled to complete his eight year sentence for that original offence and is not due for release until January 14, 2024.

The terms of his Sex Offender Register include a requirement to notify the police within three days if he stayed at a property where a child also resided. He failed to do this, the court heard.

Magistrates imposed a further 24 weeks jail but Hilton will serve this alongside his prison recall sentence, and so will not face a longer spell behind bars. When he was sentenced for the rape in 2016, the judge said he had taken advantage of his victim, who said what happened ruined her life.
