Carlilse Youth Zone held a charity event on this week in support of the Carlisle Foodbank.

5 teams from businesses took part in a ‘ready, steady, cook’ style event using a foodbank parcel to highlight the importance of healthy eating.

Carlisle Foodbank has seen an increase in the number of people using their service and hopes the event will see a rise in donations to help the most vulnerable people in society.

Each of the 5 businesses had a young person on their teams to help show them how to cook a healthy meal using cupboard stable food.

The winners on the day were Kingmoor Park Properties ably assisted by 8-year-old Jason Golightly.

The event was sponsored by local company Interfresh who deliver fresh ingredients round the county and was judged by their sales manager, Sue Fitzpatrick.

‘’I think this challenge really opened all of our eyes to what can be made out of basic cupboard items, which is so important for everyone in the current climate and the uncertain times we are facing’’ said Sue.

‘’Food nutrition, health and wellbeing is paramount to young people everywhere, hopefully today helped kick start that for these involved."

Carlisle Foodbank is always looking for donations and volunteers and if anyone would like to get involved then they are encouraged to get in touch with them on 07512 552 449 or email them at hello@carlislefoodbank.org.uk.
