A TEENAGER who had a wooden bat in a public place has been convicted of assault.
The youth admitted possessing an offensive weapon in public when he appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.
The 16-year-old boy had the bat in Howard Street in Barrow on January 11.
The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, also assaulted person on the same day.
Court documents said it was a 'nasty offence' in which the defendant 'went equipped' ahead of the incident.
Admitting the offences at Barrow's youth court, he was referred to the Cumbria Youth Offender Panel for six months.
He was told to pay a £22 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.
