Officer thanks work of sevearal fire crews in tackling a several days blaze in forest.

Paul Hedley, Chief Fire Officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue is thanking several appliances across different counties in their help to tackle a four day fire at Redesdale Forest in Nothumberland.

The fire started on Thursday August 11 and has the fire serice still concerned about being relit due to dry grass. Leading to on applicance being left at the park to keep any eye on.

Approximately five hectares has been damaged and possibly more if they cannot control the fire re-lighting again.

As well as thanking many of their help, Paul is hoping visitors of any National parks or field areas will take notice of all safety advice on the Northumberland Fire and Rescue Services - especially disposible BBQs.

Reflecting from the incident, Paul said: "Fire crews have, since Thursday, worked tirelessly, in extremely hot conditions to tackle the fire at Redesdale Forest.

"They have been ably supported by our Fire Control personnel, officers and members of our specialist wildfire response.

"It is thanks to them, the Forestry commission and local partners that we have managed to bring this fire under control and stop any further spread.

"Over the last few days, we have been supported by a helicopter which delivered gallons of water to the fireline, and one fire appliance remains on site to continue with dampening down.

Hexham Courant:

"We are still working to identify hotspots in the area and continue to work with local contractors to remove fallen timber.

"We will remain in the area until we are confident there are no remaining hotspots.

"We cannot iterate enough how dangerous wildfires are and the strain they put on emergency services and local partners.

"This fire shows the scale a fire can grow under the hot, dry weather conditions we have faced recently.

Hexham Courant:

"While we are expecting some cooler periods it is still extremely important to follow fire safety guidance which can be found on our website and on our social media channels if you are out and about over the summer."
