SEVEN people have died with coronavirus across Carlisle, Allerdale and Copeland in the last seven days, according to the latest government figures.
These latest figures mean that the total number of deaths recorded across Carlisle, Allerdale and Copeland stands at exactly 1,100.
The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19.
Cases of Covid had been steadily falling across the country since March until the early summer but a sudden increase in cases in June and July had led some health experts to predict a fresh wave of the virus this summer.
However, case numbers are now dropping across Cumbria and the country allaying fears of fresh restrictions in the future.
Colin Cox, Cumbria County Council’s director of public health, said that the county had seen a ‘little peak’ in July but that it was hard to know the full extent of case numbers due to ‘much less testing’ despite a fall in numbers.
The advice from Public Health England recommends people get vaccinated and practice good hygiene to help protect themselves and others against Covid.
Government figures for the seven days until August 5 showed that Carlisle had 81 cases, Allerdale had 85 cases and Copeland had 41 cases.
