A SINGLE item planning meeting is set to take place next week to decide on controversial plans for 370 homes in Whitehaven.

Homes England has made adjustments to the proposal in an attempt to allay the concerns originally raised by councillors, primarily around highways.

The special meeting of the planning panel has been called to decide on the revised plans due to time constraints.

Council officers have recommended the application for approval with a series of conditions.

If approved, the housebuilder will be bound to a Section 106 legal agreement which will require that 15 per cent of the 370 homes proposed are affordable housing.

Also included in the conditions, is a requirement to include 7.1 hectares of public open space and “providing for its ongoing maintenance and management.”

Payment for off-site creation of habitats will be required to meet new requirements on developments contributing to biodiversity.
