FOR this Nostalgia section we thought that we'd take a look back to over three decades ago.

All of these pictures in this section have been taken in the early 1990s and show what life was like for many Cumbrians at this time.

Hopefully, for some of you, this will rekindle thoughts of happy times in our county.

On one of the photos taken in 1990 we can see children who attended Botcherby Playgroup in Carlisle enjoying a sponsored disco.

That very same year another picture shows members of the Kirklinton YFC who raised £1,000 for Guide Dogs for the blind. Amanda Fell, the club chairman, can be seen presenting two members of the charity, Cynthia Duff and Margaret Roberts, with a cheque.

We can also see a group of principal prizewinners at the presentation day held at Newton Rigg College.

In 1991 we can see a group of children tucking into a McDonald's, the children were pupils at Upperby School and were birthday card winners.

We can also see amateur actors in the Brampton players group getting ready for a performance of Ali Baba.

At Dalston Library in 1991 storyteller Barbara Mcdermitt entertained a group of young people.

Another two interesting photos from 1992 show children involved in the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine being welcomed at Carlisle Railway Station.

That same year we can see a photo of the Upperby Junior School Badminton Team and other Carlisle children helping Raffles Community Centre lay paving on the estate.
