Cumbria County Council Eden Local Committee members recently agreed to allocate £35,700 to support 'vulnerable households' in Eden.

As a response to the increasing cost-of-living crisis, Cumbria County Council has identified £2million to help support communities across Cumbria. 

In Eden, £21,300 has been made available to support families access food – of this amount, the local committee made an immediate cash award totalling £10,000 to Eden’s three food banks based at Penrith, Appleby and Alston.

Eden local committee chairman, Councillor Phil Dew, said: "The past few years have been incredibly tough for many local people with the difficulties arising from the pandemic and the cost of living crisis.

"Local food banks and other agencies provide a lifeline for the most vulnerable households in Eden and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to support them in their work."

A further £14,400 will be distributed across five organisations that provide emergency financial support by way of cash, vouchers or urgent items.

These organisations include Cumbria Family Support, Christians Against Poverty, 4 Eden and All About Autism.

Citizen’s Advice Carlisle and Eden has also been given a grant to provide similar support to the people of Eden.
