A pub-goer threatened to knock the landlady’s head off – when she asked him to leave after he got involved in a disagreement.

Workington Magistrates’ Court heard that the incident happened at The Wellington pub in Whitehaven at about 2pm on January 24.

Peter Kelly, prosecuting, said the landlady had asked Christopher Macaulay, 35, to leave the premises. He was in “some sort of disagreement” with another member of the public.

In response to the landlady’ request, Macaulay had said, “I’m going to knock your head off”, which caused her to fear physical violence, the court heard.

He was ejected from the pub and said he was going to smash the windows.

A statement read out to the court from the landlady said: “I felt threatened due to the intoxication. I rang the police and have come back inside.”

When interviewed by police, Macaulay gave ‘no comment’ throughout.

Sean Harkin, defending, said: “It has taken some time to bring this case to court. He has made good use of that time.

“He has stayed far from criminal offending. He has turned his life around and improved matters. He has made positive steps since the date of this offence.”

The court heard that Macaulay had made contact with the mental health team and changed his medication and received counselling.

Macaulay, of Seven Acres, Parton, Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.

He was fined £200 and must pay £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
