THERE is a chill in the air and the windows are flecked with rain, so it must be July.
But as the month wears on, there's every chance the weather will begin to warm up, and thoughts will inevitably turn to where to get the best frozen treats.
We asked readers where is their go-to place for a top ice cream and our socials were sprinkled with (almost) hundreds and thousands of suggestions.
Here are just a few, in no particular order, from across the region.
Twentymans Ice Cream – Over to the west, you can find this shop that has been serving Allonby guests and residents for over 100 years. The new dipping pallet will keep kids entertained with their messy creations.
Hartleys at Egremont - Established in 1931, Hartleys has a current range of over 60 flavours. It's ice cream parlours, one in Egremont and the other in St Bees, where all of its many flavours can be sampled.
Nando’s – Some people like to hop over the border to visit the Gretna store. The fish and chip shop also produces quality Italian ice cream, ensuring that you can depart Scotland with some filled bellies.
Wellington Farm near Cockermouth - This glampsite has been making its own Jersey ice cream since it opened its cafe and tearoom in 2005. Made by Leigh Stamper along with his niece Ashton, Wellington's ice cream combines Jersey milk, cream and sugar for a creamy texture.
Davison’s at Silloth – Based on Silloth’s Criffel Street since 2008, the well-loved outlet makes traditional dairy ice cream on the premises, with over 30 flavours available at a time.
Mawson's at Seascale - A hugely popular choice this among readers. Mawson's ice cream is made in small batches by Lizzie on the family farm and sold in their ice cream parlour on Seascale's sandy shore. There are more than 150 different flavours and it's been going since 2009. "It's always an ice cream day," they say on their website.
Cheers to that!
