Lessons, including even maths and science, took a right Royal turn this week.
Staff and students across the West Lakes Multi Academy Trust have been celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee this week with a range of fun and engaging activities.
At West Lakes Academy in Egremont, students have planted a tree in the school grounds to honour 70 years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign.
A time capsule was also buried, in which students chose to include mementoes of the school and information on present-day life.
Assistant Principal, Andrew Haslop saidd: “The academy’s student council wanted to do something special to mark this moment in history.
"The Queen’s Green Canopy scheme invited people across the UK to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’, and we are delighted that we have been able to take part, and have contributed to creating a legacy in honour of The Queen’s 70 years of service to the nation.”
The academy’s musicians performed traditional British songs and students enjoyed a themed lunch, with the canteen decorated for the occasion.
Staff dressed in red, white and blue and students had themed lessons with learning exercises linked to the Queen and the Jubilee.
In science lessons, students took part in a series of Jubilee themed practical exercises, which included learning about British pennies and oxidation.
In maths, students were given the task of designing a palace using mathematical shapes and, in art, they weaved photographs of Queen Elizabeth at the start of her reign and the present day.
Thornhill Primary School held a community event for families to celebrate alongside the children. Everyone dressed in red, white and blue, and in the afternoon they held a street-party afternoon tea with sporting and craft activities for the children.
Thornhill Headteacher, Sophie McCabe said: “It's an absolute honour to hold our Jubilee celebration event and to have parents and carers and wider members of the community here to celebrate with us.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration and will be a moment in history that will always be remembered. We are incredibly grateful of the support we have received from the Friends of Thornhill community group; their kind donations have helped us to make this a fantastic event.
"The children look fantastic and have thoroughly enjoyed all of the activities; we don't ever want to take down the artwork they have produced for this event.”
