AN international pizza chain has opened its doors in a Lake District town.

Domino’s, which calls itself the nation’s best-loved pizza company, has opened a new store on Lake Road, Bowness, welcoming 30 new jobs to the area including pizza chefs, in store team members and delivery drivers.

Harry Gardner,  operations manager, said: “We’re delighted to have opened a new store in Bowness on Windermere, allowing us to deliver our delicious menu of handcrafted pizzas to even more of our loyal customers across the country."

The chain says that pizza lovers in Bowness will now be able to enjoy firm Domino’s favourites including Pepperoni Passion and Vegi Supreme alongside new additions such as the recently launched Vegi Pesto.

To celebrate they are offering customers a special collection deal - any size pizza for just £11.99 until Tuesday, May 31.

Mr Gardner said: “We’re still on the lookout for exceptional people to be part of our in-store team including pizza chefs and delivery drivers. With more than four in five of our store managers starting their own career out as team member, these roles offer a great opportunity for ambitious people looking to grow and build a care with the nation’s best-loved pizza company.”

However, former Windermere Mayor Adrian Legge has previously expressed concerns about the new store.

He worries the new store and existing, independent businesses will be competing for the same custom.

The mayor said: "Windermere and Bowness already have several independent pizza shops so I am disappointed to learn that a national chain considers it worthwhile to add to the existing outlets, all of which will compete for the same custom.

"I would hope that the appearance of the shop will be restrained and in harmony with the surrounding buildings in the Conservation Area."
