The bookmakers odds on Pete Wild to become the next Barrow manager have been slashed as we take a look at who fans want to see in the hotseat.

After a turbulent couple of weeks, Barrow AFC are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Phil Brown.

The Bluebirds' next manager will have the job of staving off relegation from Sky Bet League Two for a second season running, establishing them as a league club.

Brown came into the club in March and guided Barrow to safety, with hopes having been high that the arrangement would be extended.

But last Thursday's news leaves the Holker Street club seeking another new boss, with Brown's assistant Neil McDonald also leaving.

The current bookies' favourite is Pete Wild, who is currently managing Halifax Town in the conference, hoping to secure them promotion in the play-offs.

Town have finished the regular season with the best defensive record in the league, despite losing 2-0 to eventual winners Stockport at the weekend.

Over the weekend, bookmakers have slashed his odds from 1/1 to 2/1.

However, the fan's favourite, according to a poll run by The Mail, is former Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray, who took 30% of our vote.

Mowbray has just left Blackburn Rovers after a mixed five-year tenure. Despite having a strong 2021-22 season, they fell short of the Championship play-off places.

Mowbray’s odds have just been cut from 12/1 to 20/1, compensating for gains made by Mike Williamson and Sam Hird.

Williamson is currently the boss of Gateshead, where his head might be turned from an offer from higher up the football pyramid.

While Hird, currently first team coach at Bolton Wanderers, might be a good fit for a return to Barrow – where he a player and then assistant manager from 2019 to 2021 - after the appointment of a dedicated Football Director over the weekend.

The appointment of Iain Wood means that the club can look for someone whose focus is on the pitch – rather than the administrative side of recruitment, player development and long-term plans.
