Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mrs Claire Theresa Hensman, has appointed six new Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Cumbria. 

These six new members were announced on Monday, April 18 by Mrs Hensman. 

Mrs Julie Elizabeth Barton, of Ulverston was High Sheriff of Cumbria in 2020-21 and placed a special focus on tackling social isolation and loneliness during her year in office. She served as a non executive director of Love Barrow Families and is also a Trustee of the Neuro Research Trust. 

Mr David George Beeby, who lives in Cockermouth was appointed and is the Former CEO of the Innovia Group based in Wigton. He was also High Sherriff of Cumbria between 2021 and 2022.

Mr Gerard Paul Richardson MBE has also been appointed to the role. Mr Richardson served in the Royal Navy as an Aircraft Engineer on Helicopters, serving with 829 and 819 Squadrons. He served on the Whitehaven Magistrates Bench between 2004 and 2013. He has owned Richardson's of Whitehaven since 1995 and is the Former CEO of the volunteer Festival Company Ltd.

HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mrs Claire Hensman said: "I am delighted to appoint six new Deputy Lieutenants to the county to assist me in my duties as the Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria.

"I have a number of Deputy Lieutenants located around the county who have a wealth of experience in connection with voluntary organisations, the Armed Forces and all other aspects of life in Cumbria."

Mr Francis Alexander Scott from Windermere was appointed to the role. He is the Chairman of Schroders Family Office Service and Former Chairman of Applerigg. Mr Alexander Scott is also Trustee of the Grosvenor Estate and chairs Grosvenor Food and Agtech.

Professor Julie Mennell BSc, PGCTLHE, PhD of Brampton has been Vice Chancellor of the University of Cumbria since 2016. She is also Director of the Cumbria LEP Board and Co-Chair of its People, Employment and Skills Strategy Group. 

Mrs Susan Odling Villiers-Smith from Milnthorpe has been appointed. She has managed a rural estate near Milnthorpe since 2002 and is a Board Member of Country Landowners Association (London) since 2020.
