ON this day (March 13) in 2006, The Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Accompanied by Black Sabbath, Blondie and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Johnny Rotten-led band secured their legacy at the event, having only been around initially for two and a half years.

The London band only released one album in 1977, however it stormed to the top of the charts and is seen as a staple record of punk rock.

After a disastrous US tour in 1978, Johnny Rotten announced that the Malcolm McLaren-managed band had split up. Although the singer did depart, the group returned to the UK charts with a Sid Vicious-led cover version of Frank Sinatra’s My Way.

The band reunited for a tour in 1996 and are in 58th place on Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
