EXCITING plans to regenerate an industrial estate were on show at a special drop-in exhibition.

Leconfield Redevelopment is set to bring economic and social benefits to the community through projects which will have a positive impact on people, the economy, and the environment.

A consultation took place at Cleator Moor Civic Hall over two days last week to give as many people from the community as possible a chance to find out more about the plans including the jobs, skills, training, and business support opportunities set to be created.

Mayor Mike Starkie, portfolio holder for redevelopment, said: “We had around 100 people through the doors of our drop in sessions which outlined what the first phase of the Leconfield Redevelopment could look like, subject to being approved by the council’s planning panel. An outline planning application will be submitted in the first week of April which sets the parameters for the new hub development.

“It was a real opportunity for us to show how we turn the existing industrial estate into an area for innovation and the home of the Industrial Solutions Hub. We had a lot of positive responses to this first phase.

“The first phase is just part of our wider 10+ year plan for the site. But, it is Leconfield first, we would redevelop this existing site before potentially expanding.

“It was useful for us to hear all community views and we also carried out an online survey which was filled in by around 60 people, here the support was mixed and split 50/50. We expected this to be the case as it is easier to explain our vision in person.

“I’d like to thank everyone that took the time to attend the sessions and give us feedback. This will all now be collated and be presented as part of the planning application pack.

“This is an exciting development for Cleator Moor and I was pleased to see the level of support locally.”

The results of this consultation are currently being collated fully.

These and the consultation results for the wider site masterplan, which was the subject of a public drop-in session in November 2021, will be put into two outline planning applications which will be submitted at the beginning of next month.
