A youth Rugby team, set up only two years a go is heading for the top.

Lowca Under 16 plays competed in the national cup against Illingworth from Yorkshire at the weekend.

They started as the complete under dogs but roared through the game and the blustery conditions like the Lions they are named for.

It was not just a fluke win, either. The team beat Illingworth by 26 to 10.

Assistant coach Martin Johnston said coaches and team were "ecstatic" on the day - and now it is time for the community to rally around and support these young cubs.

"There was probably more than 100 people on the ground on Sunday and I hope we have even more support on February 13 when they play Leigh Minors.

"With self belief, this team, has a chance of going all the way."
