A SOCIAL club in Whitehaven is continuing to host events to raise money for a very important cause.

The Marchon Club will be hosting a range of events to raise money for BEE Unique – a charity which supports children with autism.

Staff at the club have been holding events for a number of months and have managed to raise thousands for the cause.

Peter Boyle, an organiser at the club said: “We started fundraising a few months ago and have managed to raise £5,000 by Christmas. Hopefully this year we can help to raise even more.”

“BEE Unique share a special place in my heart as my grandson James suffers from autism. Lots of children are autistic and I don’t think many people realise. The charity also offers lots of support to children in the area.”

Some members of staff at the club have been very dedicated to fundraising and have been supporting many charities for a number of years.

The first of the latest series of events will be held on Saturday, February 5, featuring an act called The Angelettes.

Tickets for this event are £12 and the proceeds from it will be going straight to Bee Unique.

In the summer, a top Edinburgh Ska band called The Skababs are due to perform on Saturday, May 15.

The club has also managed to attract some big names that are sure to attract attention. Ex-Manchester United and England Captain Bryan Robson will be hosting an event on Friday, May 20.

A punk rock night headlined by 6 Little Fingers is also planned for July 17.

Last year the club held a number of events including raffles and tombolas with the proceeds going towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Bee Unique has also done lots of work over recent years to help support those within the community. Last year they teamed up with Mayfield School in Whitehaven to offer a sports day for children who attend the school. Mayfield offers support for children with disabilities and special needs.
