Tributes have poured in after a young woman and a one-year-old baby were found dead at an address in Whitehaven.

Police attended an address in Wellington Row after being made aware at 2.52pm on December 30 of a concern for the welfare of a woman.

A spokesperson said: “Sadly, two people were found deceased in the address – a woman in her twenties and a one-year-old child.”

Police added that there are no suspicious circumstances at this time and the coroner has been contacted about the deaths.

The police have not confirmed the identity of the pair, however they have been named locally through friends and family on social media as Natalie Kane and her one-year-old son Harry Kane.

In hundreds of social media tributes, Natalie was described as ‘a lovely mother devoted to her one-year-old little boy’.

A fundraising page has been set up by close friends Ashton Graham and Stacey Hackett to help towards the pair’s funeral.

They have also organised a balloon release on Friday to pay tribute to Natalie and Harry.

Ashton said: “I just want to say what a brilliant mam she was and how proud we all are of her.

“She’s touched a lot of hearts and she’ll never know how truly loved and special she and baby Harry are.

“When people say your best friend can be your soulmate, I truly truly believe that’s what you are.

“A part of me has died with you, my life will never ever be the same without you, nothing will be the same again.

“He (Harry) was such a happy baby. You were such a brilliant little mam, protected him from any harm, made sure he had everything he needed. You gave him the best life, he was the making of you.”

The balloon release will take place this Friday, January 7 at Maryport promenade starting at 7pm.

People are encouraged to take ‘Hey Duggie’ balloons in honour of Harry’s favourite cartoon and pink and purple balloons for Natalie.
