Mayor Pam Birks impressed with efforts made at Lowry Hill Christmas Lights Competition

The Mayor of Carlisle, Pam Birks, was honoured with the task of selecting the winner of this year's Lowry Hill Christmas Lights Competition in Carlisle - a competition she has won herself before she was Mayor.

First prize went to Senderson Close, which had an amusing display depicting Santa and Rudolph having crash landed on in the garden.

Second prize went to a house on Lowry Hill Road, where the owner had put light around the whole of the house down drain pipes and along the base of the house and down the driveway - resident, Mr Collier had some help from his son when he was up the ladders, so health and safety was observed.

The third prize was awarded to Swinburn Drive, where the owners had made many of the decorations themselves out of bent willow.

The reindeer and angel on were both made in the owners own garage workshop.

Mayor Pam Birks said: "This is an annual competition, which prior to being Mayor my home has won. So the bar was high.

"Looking for creativity, ingenuity and imagination, I was escorted to those houses shortlisted by secretary of the Association Jenny Morton and her husband David Morton.

"What a pleasant evening I had conversing with the winners and handing out gift vouchers.

"Well done Lowry Hill Residents association, and all of the volunteers who took time to shortlist the lights this year."
