WHITEHAVEN have added to their signings for next season with the contract extension of fan favourite Andrew Dawson.

The forward, nicknamed 'Bruie' played at the club the during the 2021, has committed to another two years in the chocolate, blue and gold .

The 32 year old from South Cumbria cemented his place in the 17 last year with a number of good runs for the club, after stints at both Barrow and Workington.

Speaking about signing the new deal Dawson said “Last year was one of the most successful and enjoyable years of my career so I am happy to be here for another 2 years. I’m looking forward to the extra professionalism Jonty will bring to the side as well as some new exciting additions. Looking at the signings other clubs have made it looks like it’s going to be another tough year and I hope to once again play my part in a successful season.

The club are happy to have the prop-forward on board.

Special mention to Charlo (Gary Charlton) for giving me the opportunity last season and I wish him well in his new role at the club.”

Head coach Jonty Gorley spoke saying "It's great to get Bruie on a multi-year deal. Same as some other players Bruie comes with vast championship experience in a position where you need some experience, front row. Bruie carries the ball really strongly and gets a fast play the ball for us to play on the back of, his leg drive and metres after contact get us on the front foot. He's great to have in the squad for the next couple of years."

Club director Ashley Kilpatrick said "It’s great to have Andrew signed up for the next 2 years, I think Bruie proved a lot of doubters last season wrong and he can easily play Championship rugby, he was good for us in his first season at the club, his go forward is second to none always making yards with strong carries, he’s another lad we wanted signed up quickly as we knew there would be interest after the season Bruie had."
