A TEENAGER has been left in critical condition and two more injured following a crash on the A591.

Police were called at 8.41pm on Sunday to the report of a crash on the A591 between Crossthwaite roundabout and Dodd Wood, Keswick.

The collision involved a car carrying three people. All three were taken to The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for treatment by paramedics.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police, said: “Two men and one woman were involved in the incident. They were all taken to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

“A 19-year-old woman from Wigton, a passenger in the car, remains in a critical condition.

“The driver, a 19-year-old man from Carlisle, and a 22-year-old man from Allerdale, who was also a passenger, received minor injuries.”

The road was closed for a number of hours while investigations were undertaken, the road was made safe and the vehicle was removed.

Councillors in Keswick have reacted to the tragedy, sending their thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.

Mayor of Keswick, Cllr Alan Dunn was shocked and saddened by the news.

He said: “It has been a nasty accident by the sounds of things.

“I wish the victims all the very best for a speedy recovery, it’s very sad and I hope that everybody is okay.

“I am thinking of all involved and their families.”

Keswick councillor David Burn was also left saddened by the news.

He said: “It’s devastating news to hear that someone has been so badly injured so close to Keswick.”
