ONE of the most established car garages in Carlisle has recently been bought over.

Caldew Electrical’s Matty Boak has purchased the former MGM Motors garage on Morton Street in the city’s Caldewgate area, bringing to a close one of the longest standing SAAB garages in the UK.

MGM Motors had worked on the site for over 30 years. Although the focus was on the Swedish vehicles, the company also provided MOT's and services for a range of makes and models.

Discussing why he decided to buy the premises, Matty said: “It’s quite an architectural garage and I really enjoy the way the building looks.

The garage was previously owned by the popular Malcolm Mitchinson.

Good wishes for retirement and thanks for his 30 years of service to the garage has poured in to the popular car garage owner.

Neil Walker was full of good wishes for the popular garage owner, he said: "Have used Malcolm's for 30 years. Great bloke and garage. Sad to see him go. Have a great retirement."

Deborah Wearing, was also full of praise for the popular garage owner and for the friendship that he has shown over his years of service, she commented: "Malcolm Mitchinson, not only the best mechanic you are ever going to come across but I’m proud to call him my friend of over 40 years. Enjoy your retirement Malcolm, you deserve it. All the best from all of us at Brookside."

Kay Hendren, Malcolm's daughter was proud of her dad for such a long time working at he garage and the legacy that he has created , she said: "Malcolm Mitchinson such a legacy dad, well done."

LN Hance, also had praise for the outgoing mechanic, they said:

"Malcolm has been an integral part of our success at ENHANCE, being the best Landlord anyone could ask for as a new business in our earlier days, and we can't thank him enough!

"It's the end of an era and you will be greatly missed, Malcolm, but enjoy your retirement, you've earned every minute of it.

"Thank you for everything, Nathan and Lisa."
