A Lifeboat team has been handed a generous donation to continue it's life-saving work.

St Bees RNLI were given over £7,000 in donations by the Co-op in Egremont on Friday November 19.

Volunteers from the Lifeboat team went down to receive their share of the £23,250.90 raised at the Egremont store through the collection of two pence in every pound spent there and the sale of carrier bags.

St Bees RNLI took to social media to express their gratitude.

A spokesperson for St Bees RNLI said: "This Friday three of our volunteers went to the Co-op at Egremont to meet some of their staff, Donna Quayle - team leader and community champion, Andrew Harris - Team leader and Adam Muncaster - member pioneer, to accept an amazing donation of £7,495.00.

"All our volunteers would like to thank everyone at the Co-op and their members who nominated St Bees RNLI, their support will help us continue to save lives at sea."

St Bees RNLI were one of three local charities nominated by Co-op members to receive the donation.
