Shoppers hoping to buy local produce for Christmas have double the opportunity to do so in Egremont next month.

The town’s farmers craft and Fairtrade market usually takes place on the third Friday of each month, however over November and December there are two events, with a market on the first Friday as well.

Discussing the event, Chairperson Helen Shipton-Smith said: “This is a community market, selling farmers’ produce and Fairtrade products. We raise money for lots of different charities. This month, we’ve had Hospice from Home volunteers who have served refreshments and we have raised money for their very valuable cause in West Cumbria.

“We have live music from a local duo throughout the day which provides a nice bit of background music. There are a lot of stalls ranging from local meats and preserves, puddings and cakes, cheeses, herbs and vegetables. There’s cards and knitted goods, artwork and woodwork. A wide range of crafts but our focus is on local food and helping local businesses help find a market.”

The market gives customers the perfect opportunity to get the essentials for Christmas Day. Helen continued: “There will be the opportunity to buy festive gifts. In the lead up to Christmas we have a wide variety of goods that can be sold in the run up to the 25th. From turkey crowns to chutneys, there’s plenty on offer as we approach the festive season.”

The next market will take place on Friday December 3, with a second event taking place on the 17th.
