There will be a festive feel to Whitehaven this weekend.

The Beacon's Santa's Grotto opens and the Manor House is giving advent calendars to children who come along to share an hour with the Tower Prince and Spiderman.

Darling Manor: Whitehaven's magical party events company have special guests on Sunday in the form of the Tower Princess and Spider Man. Pre-booking is essential for one-hour parties filled with games, including an Advent calendar for each child.

The Beacon: Santa is back in his grotto this weekend. Families will also be able to follow a Santa Trail covering four floors. Plenty of fun for all ages - and the chance to meet Santa at the end.

The Rum Story: Open from 10am to 4pm each day, the Rum Story tells a grim story of the slaves used to grow the cane to make rum. Despite the horror behind the story, the museum and shop are fascinating places to visit.

St Nicholas Church gardens: One of the big surprises is coming across the grave of Mildred Gale. That name might not be familiar but her grandson certainly achieved fame as George Washington, the first president of the United States.

St Bees Head: This glorious piece of coastline near Whitehaven is only piece of Heritage Coast on the north-western English coastline between Wales and Scotland.

Egremont Castle: Situated in Egremont, about 15 minutes from Whitehaven this Medieval Castle, from the 12th and 13thcentury is a ruin but there is still plenty to see.

Rosehill Theatre: Don't miss Anything Goes,billed as the show of the year. Filmed live at the Barbican in London, this new five-star production of the classic musical comedy features an all-star cast led by renowned Broadway royalty Sutton Foster as Reno Sweeney, alongside Robert Lindsay (My Family), Felicity Kendal (The Good Life) and Gary Wilmot (Chicago). It starts on Sunday at 7pm and is also on on Wednesday December 1.
