With Christmas Day arriving in just six weeks’ time, it is crazy to think that 2021 is coming to a close.

Of course, the end of the year isn’t complete without the mad rush into town centres to grab Christmas presents for our loved ones.

The News and Star, Times and Star and Whitehaven News reached out to its readers to find out what are the best local shops in Cumbria to get Christmas presents.

In no particular order, the ten favourite local stores are:

1) Toys & Tech – located on Bank Street, Carlisle, the shop, dubbed ‘Carlisle’s leading toy shop’ has a massive range of gifts on offer, from jigsaws and dolls to remote control cars and science equipment.

2) Suziebou – an independent store in Dalston, customers can buy many of wonderful gifts, cards, homeware and fashion for friends and family, young and old.

3) Oak Tree Farm – the animal charity at Wetheral Shield have a variety of products for your pet, as well as books for children and accessories.

4) Lakeland Lights Company – the independent, family-run business sell luxury scented candles inspired by the Lake District and Cumbria. The store take inspiration from the beautiful Cumbrian landscape.

5) The Rum Story – as well as detailing Whitehaven as one of Britain’s busiest ports, the tourist attraction also have a selection of rum on offer, if you are look to add a touch of class to your Secret Santa gift.

6) Little Whims – found on Whitehaven’s Market Place, the independent store opened in August where owner Lara has been selling unique handmade gifts, along with beautiful cards, accessories, and homeware.

7) Dovetail Emporium – the King Street, Whitehaven-based store sells special occasion gifts with a twist, jewellery at affordable prices, shabby chic furniture and the leading shabby chic paint, plus much, much more.

8) The Linden Tree – located on Main Street, Cockermouth, the boutique retailer has been selling jewellery for over 20 years and pride themselves on offering value for money, whilst providing forward-thinking products.

9) Strange and Beautiful, - the popular store has been open in Workington since 2007. The store prides itself on offering alternative gifts for their customers, ranging from jewellery to dream catchers to spells and skulls.

10) Sinclair’s – the family-owned jewellery shop has been serving customers of Workington for over 70 years. Customers continue to leave five-star reviews on their Facebook page, praising their customer service.
