COPELAND MP Trudy Harrison has visited Thirlmere to West Cumbria pipeline project to look at the progress the team have made in recent months.

Thirlmere will be used as the new source to supply drinking water for homes and businesses in West Cumbria.

The pipelines have been constructed to make the most of gravity and utilise the natural contours of the land, allowing the water to travel easily along the pipes without the need for pumps and provide water for the area.

The team are on schedule to have the project completed and the pipeline in use by the spring of 2022.

She said: "I was particularly impressed by the newly-created Williamsgate Water Treatment Works that will be able to treat 80 million litres of water that comes from Thirlmere Reservoir every day – before it is distributed to service reservoirs where it will be stored and ready for supply to West Cumbrian homes.

"I also welcome all the steps United Utilities are taking to reduce the impact of their works on the local grassland and to return the land to its original state on completion of the project next spring."
