A PUBLIC meeting of Cumbria County Council's cabinet will include updates on Local Government Reform.

Cumbria County Council's cabinet is set to meet at Cumbria House in Botchergate, Carlisle on Thursday at 10am.

The public meeting will include statements by the leader of Cumbria County Council and cabinet members.

Members will also hear an update on the process of Local Government Reform.

After the decision was made by Government to reform Local Government in Cumbria into a more streamlined approach, proposals were submitted to Government outlining how the county should be run and the winning bid was for two unitary authorities.

The decision was made by then secretary of state Robert Jenrick, the council sent a pre-action protocol letter earlier this year, signalling that they could present a legal challenge against the decision.

A report will be given by the chief legal officer on whether there would be a case for a judicial review into the decision. Council members will also hear a report from the executive director of economy and infrastructure on the Port of Working Masterplan.

The executive director will give and update on the school admission arrangements for 2023/2024. Part B of the agenda is set to be discussed in the absence of the press and public.
